Despite all of his greatness, Lionel Messi has never scored against Chelsea and this will be something he will be looking to put right when the two sides meet next Tuesday at Stamford Bridge in the last 16 in the Champions League.
Playing against some of the best players in the world every day clearly doesn’t affect Lionel and if anything, just makes his talent even greater as he dances round challenges and tries outrageous skills.
The Barcelona team seemed in a jovial mood with their attention on the upcoming La Liga games against Eibar on Saturday. The Blaugrana are currently seven points clear at the top of Spain’s top flight, with nearest rivals Atletico Madrid hoping that Messi and co slip up.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s Real Madrid are languishing in fourth place and are out of the Copa del Rey so all of Zinedine Zidane’s eggs are in the Champions league basket as Los Blancos take on PSG in the clash of the last 16.
Chelsea will be hoping to replicate their success of 2012, where they defeated one of the great Barca sides over two legs in the semi-finals. A 1-0 win over Barcelona at Stamford Bridge was followed up by the dramatic 2-2 draw at the Nou Camp which was enough to see the London side through. They then went on to beat Bayern Munich in the final.
Lionel Messi missed a penalty in that semi-final second leg and will be looking to redeem himself by settling an old score and putting Chelsea to the sword. You can keep up to date with the game by following our match centre, by the looks of Leo in training, he looks well up for this one!
