Whitehaven meet St Helens this weekend in the Betfred Challenge Cup, and you can watch every try, kick and scrum live on The Sportsman. The reigning cup holders and Betfred Super League champions travel to west Cumbria looking to start their Challenge Cup defence with a bang.
For Whitehaven coach Jonty Gorley, ties like this are what the Betfred Challenge Cup is all about. “This is my biggest challenge as a coach so far, it is the pinnacle and doesn’t get much bigger. You don’t get any bigger than St Helens in this country. It is a different level and will be a good experience for everybody involved.”
For St Helens prop forward Kyle Amor, the game represents a homecoming. The 34-year-old was born in Whitehaven, and is relishing the chance to perform in his hometown.
“I’m really looking forward to it but we still have a job to do to get through to the next round. It's my hometown, me and my wife are from up there and when I played at amateur and then got the opportunity to play for my home town I was so excited. Ultimately that is where the heart is and I have fond memories and a lot of good people to thank for the career I’ve had.”
Saints are the overwhelming favourites for this one, but the beauty of one-off knockout rugby league is that anything can happen. Don’t miss a moment of this Betfred Challenge Cup sixth-round clash live on The Sportsman. We'll be live from 1.45pm, with the game kicking off at 2pm.
