What a fascinating Cheltenham Gold Cup we have in 2023. All the talk this year has been about Galopin Des Champs, who would be an unbeaten chaser if not for a heart-breaking final fence fall here twelve months ago when well clear.

Stattler, Noble Yeats and Ahoy Senor won’t fail for a lack of stamina and they’ll be galloping on upto the line but the saying ‘form is temporary, class is permanent’ may apply here to A PLUS TARD.

He has been supplemented for the race at a cost of £15,000, a top four finish will return a profit, but in light of the rain forecast, he will get conditions he is accustomed to in France.

The 8/11 favourite Mighty Potter was well beaten by Harry Cobden on board Stage Star in the opening race of day three at Cheltenham Festival. The Paul Nicholls trained horse led the race from the front and the rest of the pack simply couldn’t live with him.

It’s remarkably been 40 years since Michael Dickinson pulled off one of the greatest horse racing feats of all time. In the 1983 Cheltenham Gold Cup, every single one of the first five horses over the line were trained by Dickinson, who was just 33 at the time.

HERMES ALLEN has looked fantastic in all his wins so far, including over track and trip in November. I know Challow Hurdle winners have a poor record, but usually they are long odds on favourites having not beaten a strong field at Newbury. That couldn’t be further from the case for this horse. Subsequent form has proved he beat a strong field, and he did it on the bridle. We don’t know how good he could be.
