Yes, you read that right. Now is the time to back Liverpool to win the Champions League. You may think I have lost my mind after last night’s tepid performance against Red Star Belgrade but their side is still packed full of quality and they still have the experience of last year’s run to the final.
This was a one-off for this Liverpool side. Jurgen Klopp will know that every side has its off days and things should return to normal when they take on Fulham on Sunday. The Reds remain with their Champions League fate in their own hands, currently in second place.
The Reds must travel to Paris next up to take on PSG, but as we saw in the game at Anfield they are more than capable of beating the French champions and ruffling a few feathers. After that, they face Napoli at Anfield in what could be the decider for Champions League qualification.
As it happens, Liverpool can afford to draw in Paris and still qualify from the group and you could see them beating many of Europe’s top sides over two legs, as they showed last year. They have already shredded PSG this season and although they have not hit top gear in Europe this season, they are still unbeaten in the Premier League showing they have the ability to battle it out at the top.
Klopp’s men are now a whopping 12/1 to win the Champions League this season, out from odds of 8/1 before the game last night. This represents good value for a side who could beat many of the top teams in Europe. One defeat is not the end of the world for Klopp’s men. They could still win club football’s biggest prize.
