Liverpool Boss Jurgen Klopp Must Strengthen In This Area If He Wants To Claim Premier League Glory

Liverpool's quest for Premier League glory may have hit a slight bump in the road when they lost to Manchester City in their last top-flight match, but Jurgen Klopp has to ensure he doesn't let their four-point lead slip in the coming months and the German boss can help his team's quest for a maiden Premier League title.

After a fairly injury-free start to the season, Klopp has had to tinker with his defensive line-up in recent weeks with Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren all suffering injuries to leave the Reds threadbare at the back.

Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson - arguably the Reds' two shining defensive beacons - have managed to stay fit all season, while Trent Alexander-Arnold has only missed a couple of games through injury, and that trio should start for Liverpool in their Premier League match with Brighton & Hove Albion later today.

However, with an array of injuries in central defence for today's clash with the Seagulls it appears that Fabinho will play alongside Van Dijk at the heart of the defence, but it's not the central defensive area that has to be bolstered, as the left-back area looks particularly weak.

Robertson has been phenomenal all season and is a guaranteed starter, if fit, but the Scottish international has to be used wisely when the games come thick and fast over the coming months, and it's the left-back area that could see Liverpool's vulnerability exploited, if they don't delve into the transfer market.

Alberto Moreno is currently acting as the reserve left-back, but he has been very vocal in his will to leave the Merseyside club, so if Klopp was to let him go then he would need to buy a left-back in the next few weeks, and while the right-back options could fill in for the time being, it's surely worth Klopp investing on a new left-back in order to give Liverpool the best chance of claiming the title.
