Liverpool Clipped In Champions League Betting: Are The Bookmakers Right To Be Running Scared Of Klopp?

Liverpool swept past PSG at Anfield on Tuesday night in stunning fashion to once again mark themselves down as potential winners of the Champions League.

The Reds made it all the way to the final last season before losing to Real Madrid but there are no signs of sulking at the club as they dominated the Ligue 1 Champions in startling fashion.

PSG, a team littered with superstars, had no answers to the the quality of Liverpool on their own patch and the bookmakers are once again running scared of a famous run from the five time winners of the tournament.

Neymar, Mbappe and Cavani, widely considered as the best front three on earth, were virtual no shows for long periods of the match and it was a performance from Liverpool that would have resonated across the continent. A vital three points at home, the Anfield club are now already in pole position to qualify from a potential group of death and their price to go all the way for a sixth time has been slashed as a result.

One bookmaker was impressed enough to cut the Reds from 12/1 into 7/1 for Champions League glory which is a massive shift in the prices off the back of just one home win.

There is a long way to go in the tournament yet which does make that price look a touch skinny, especially with a daunting trip to Naples next up for Jurgen Klopp's men which will be a stern test of their credentials.

The victory last night, secured by that late Firmino winner, was however much more comprehensive than the 3-2 scoreline suggested and kept Liverpool's 100% record going this season with a sixth consecutive win.

Jurgen Klopp was clearly delighted with the performance and although it remains early stages, there is a growing belief at Anfied that this could be a potentially special season.

Manchester City remain the outright Champions League favourites ahead of their game against Lyon tonight, but could Liverpool be the more likely winners from the Premier League?

PSG on the other hand, have gone the other way in the betting with the French team now as big as 10/1 for the trophy, having been a 7/1 shot before their defeat at Anfield as Neymar and co flopped badly in their first big test of the season.

Elsewhere, Barcelona cruised past PSV to once again mark themselves out as genuine threats for another Champions League this term with Lionel Messi pulling the strings, and Atletico Madrid picked up a crucial away win at Monaco as they started off on the right foot, with many believing they are outside bets at 11/1 (from 12s) to lift their first European Cup crown.
