Liverpool defender Ragnar Klavan has left Anfield and joined Serie A side Cagliari in a deal reportedly worth £2m, as Jurgen Klopp trims down his squad ahead of a huge season for the Merseysiders.
The 32-year-old has been linked with a move away from the Reds all summer, but last night the Estonian international captain completed his move to Italy, and it will now see Klopp put his trust in his current crop of defenders.
Klavan made 53 appearances for Liverpool in a two-year spell after he signed from Augsburg in July 2016, but he is now heading to Sardinia, and it now leaves Klopp's defensive areas slighty weaker with the news emerging that Dejan Lovren will be unavailable for Liverpool's Monday night clash with Crystal Palace.
Joel Matip is winning his race to get back to full fitness, but it would be a surprise to see if he was in Klopp's starting XI on Monday night at Selhurst Park, so it could see Joe Gomez join Virgin Van Dijk in the centre-back role again after the pair blossomed together in Liverpool's opening 4-0 win against West Ham United.
Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold completed Liverpool's back-four in that Hammers victory, but with only Nathaniel Clyne on the bench to offer defensive back-up then the Reds could well just be left a little short in defence, so will be eager to get Matip and Lovren in the first-team setup, and Klavan's exit won't have many issues as the Premier League clicks into top gear.
