Liverpool are looking to further strengthen their midfield this January as Jurgen Klopp eyes up just one signing this winter. The man at the top of Jurgen Klopp’s wish list is Hoffenheim midfielder Kerem Demirbay who the German boss knows very well from his time at Borussia Dortmund.
Whilst he was in charge of the German giants, Demirbay was coming up through the youth teams before he moved onto Hamburg before transferring to Hoffenheim in 2016. The 25-year old has grown into a powerful and dominant central midfielder and is now one of the top talents in the Bundesliga.
With Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain out for the rest of the campaign, Klopp has eyed up the German as a potential January signing. The Reds may not need to do too much in the January transfer given the current strength of their squad but one key signing could be the difference between them winning the Premier League title or just falling short.
A key link between the player and Liverpool could be his management company who also represent Naby Keita and Sadio Mane. Keita moved from the Bundesliga to Liverpool in the summer and could play a part in this transfer if a fee is agreed between the two clubs.
Demirbay could cost as little as £25m however if continues his strong performances for Hoffenheim that figure could rise rapidly. With two appearances and one goal already for the Germany national team, he could develop into one of Europe’s top midfielders and Liverpool could have a real star on their hands.
