The Liverpool lineup ahead of the Merseyside derby has been revealed. The last of our Premier League Sunday Fixtures sees Everton travel across Stanley Park to Anfield.
The two sides are currently second and sixth in the table, respectively.
The Reds are unbeaten in the league this season but come into the game off a 2-1 away loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League this week.
The Toffees have three wins in their last four games in all competitions, although only narrowly scraped a 1-0 win over promoted side Cardiff City at Goodison Park last weekend.
Everton are on a winless run at Anfield stretching back almost two decades - last millenium in fact - all the way to the tail end of 1999 when Eiffel 65’s ‘Blue’ was topping the charts. The match marks the 100th league meeting between Liverpool and Everton at Anfield. The Reds have won 43, and the Toffees two. There have also been 33 draws.
The home team to walk out in front of the Kop sees skipper Jordan Henderson out from the XI to be replaced by summer signing Fabinho, after the captain was sent off against Watford last weekend. Xherdan Shaqiri was also granted his second successive league start after being dropped for the midweek meeting with Les Parisiens, and manager Jurgen Klopp’s changes were greeted with much aplomb on social media.
Henderson has been a target of fans’ ire with some extremely unflattering performances that haven’t garnered much enthusiasm from the Reds. There’s also no room for James Milner - who scored what was ultimately a consolation penalty in Paris. Joe Gomez has also been ushered into a more natural centre-half role alongside Virgil Van Djik, after a spell at right-back.
Nice team. [Joe] Gomez back to the position where he's best, Fabinho and Shaqiri into the midfield. (@Dave_Comerford)
Yassss fabinho and shaqiri start (@aqlzafran)
Big chance for Fabinho to claim a regular place in the side. (@PaulAir)
Lash your house on Fabinho scoring a 30 yard daisy cutter (@Aldo1878)
Liverpoool versus Everton kicks off at 4:15pm (GMT) this afternoon.
