Liverpool fans had a lot to moan and grumble about last night as they saw their side beaten in Paris 2-1, a result that leaves them needing a win in their final group game against Napoli. Goals from Juan Bernat and Neymar were enough to secure all three points for PSG who now look likely to progress from the group and into the knockout stages.
James Milner’s penalty was Liverpool’s only ray of hope in a below-par performance and a lot of focus turned to the referee after what was a frustrating night for the Reds. Even Jurgen Klopp had his say on the matter: “"I never expect help from a ref, but calm all these things down. It doesn't happen that often to be 100% honest, but it happened tonight and we were not calm enough.”
Even the decision that did go Liverpool’s way, the penalty, was only just given after some confusion between the officials before the referee eventually changed his mind from the corner he had originally awarded.
But one incident, spotted by Rob on Twitter, drew the fury of the Liverpool fans watching on. Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren kicked the ball towards the touchline and it was heading out for a throw-in. But before the ball went out of play, Bernat stopped the ball on the touchline, picked it up and took the throw quickly.
The ball was given to Neymar who then took an ambitious shot, fell over and was awarded a free-kick! This is one of the most remarkable pieces of refereeing you are likely to see this season, in one of the biggest games of the year. Watch it for yourself down below.
