Jamie Carragher has claimed that Eden Hazard is the "best player in the Premier League" after praising the Belgian phenomenon on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football yesterday evening.
Analysing Chelsea's 4-1 win over Cardiff City at the weekend ahead of Southampton's clash with Brighton & Hove Albion last night, Carragher was quick to pick out Hazard as the Blues star man, and the catalyst for helping Maurizio Sarri's men win their opening five games in the English top-flight.
Focusing on Hazard, the former Liverpool defender said: "I think Hazard is the best player in the Premier League. What I mean by that is, [Kevin] De Bruyne and [Mohamed] Salah were the best players last season, I’m talking over a four or five-year period if I think ‘who’s the man?’. I do, I think he’s fantastic."
Impressed with Hazard in the summer at the World Cup, Carragher was surprised that the attacking midfielder, who helped Belgium reach the semi-finals was not given the premier accolade which was won by Croatia's Luka Modric. “I think he was the best player at the World Cup. I should say that, I think he should have won player of the tournament," expressed Carragher.
After Antonio Conte often struggled to get the best out of Hazard last season, Carragher feels that new boss Sarri is letting the diminutive superstar flourish claiming "he’s been used really well by the manager."
Hazard is currently topping the goal-scoring charts in the Premier League with five goals, but it's his style of play that Carragher admires continuing his appreciation by saying, “The great thing that I love and say about every top attacking player is they can’t be bullied, they can’t be knocked off the ball."
