Manchester United's Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard are two of the more prolific social media users in their - or any - dressing room, the two midfielders enjoying sharing tidbits of their life to legions of fans across the world.
While this is a way to bring their fans closer and build their own personal brands, it’s been criticised in some corners as being a distraction to on-field performances and as showing a lack of concentration on the sizeable task at hand in the Manchester United engine room.
Those views have been exercised most recently by Liverpool legend Steve McMahon. A feature of the Reds' midfield in the late 80s, he now works as a television pundit and didn’t hold back when giving his opinions on this new trend.
Their use of the platforms, he says, is "not always [done] for the right reasons."
"When it’s showing his new hairdo and he’s dancing.. him and Lingard are doing all these stupid dances after the games and stuff.. you have to be very careful."
"Sometimes you’re making the rod for your own back - when he does have a bad game, when he does do something that’s not right, then he’s open for criticism. I’m not saying he shouldn’t do it - do it at home - he’s doing it in the dressing room with other players and stuff, that would rile me as a manager."
How would McMahon deal with this if he was the pair's gaffer? He would, he says, say this to them: "You concentrate on your football, never mind all your singing and prancing and dancing about, do it on the pitch for me, and you can that other stuff outside."
Has McMahon got a point, or is he just showing his age?
