According to Mundo Deportivo, Liverpool remain keenly interested in bringing Dutch international Jasper Cillesen to Anfield as their first choice goalkeeper but they may be made to wait by the Barcelona keeper. The 29-year-old is waiting for the goalkeeper transfer market to get into full swing, with Thibaut Courtois set to leave Chelsea for Real Madrid and start off a whole chain of events.
Cillessen is keen to be a starter if he does move, otherwise, he is settled being Barcelona’s cup goalkeeper behind the talented German giant Marc-Andre Ter Stegen. Liverpool were thought to have decided to stick with their three goalkeepers Loris Karius, Simon Mignolet and Danny Ward.
However, another error by Karius in a pre-season friendly has led to Jurgen Klopp to reconsider his position ahead of the new Premier League season. He is still unsure about who he can trust as his number one heading into the new season where the Reds will be competing in four competitions.
Cillessen would come straight in for the Anfield club and be the first choice keeper, removing all doubt from Klopp’s mind. That is the advantage Liverpool have in this scenario as few other top clubs can offer up their number one jersey in this manner.
At 29, Cillessen still has his best years of goalkeeping ahead of him and it is a shame to see him wasted on the bench at Barca. This may need a couple of transfers to go through before this one materialises, but it is certainly in the pipeline.
