Former Manchester United player and BT Sport pundit Rio Ferdinand has plucked out the team he would want to avoid in the knockout stages of the Champions League this year. After last night’s good performance against Napoli Rio has singled out Premier League leaders Liverpool as the team to avoid in Monday’s draw.
Ferdinand said: "Jurgen sounded more pleased with the way that they played and they nullified a Napoli team who have got goals in them and they didn't really create much.
"They started playing out of character which is a fantastic achievement. The tenacity with which they play with is unrivalled in Europe at the moment. They are aggressive, on the front foot and their attention to detail is something to behold but when you've got Mo Salah, Mane and Firmino backing it up this are a team you wouldn't want to come out of the hat and have to play against."
Liverpool are now 9/1 to win the tournament and will not be fearful of any opponent they come up against. They could face Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona, Porto, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid or Juventus, in the next stage if there are not shocks tonight which shake up the remaining groups.
The Reds beat Porto, Manchester City and Roma over two legs on their way to the final in Kiev last year, although we all know the nightmare that occurred with Loris Karius against Real Madrid.
This year, with Alisson between the sticks, they are looking to put that right and taste European success for the sixth time in their illustrious history.
