''Man On The Moon Could See That Was Handball'' - Leeds United And Nottingham Forest Fans React To Controversial Equaliser
Saturday night's Championship game was shrouded in controversy as Leeds United scored a dramatic late equaliser to draw 1-1 with Nottingham Forest at Elland Road- although the nature of the equalising goal was fortunate to say the least!
Kemar Roofe was lurking at the back post, just a yard away from the goal, when the ball was whipped across. It seemed as if he couldn't miss and duly bundled the ball into the net...
However, Roofe blatantly used his hand to score! Forest players were incredulous as they were left complaining to the referee and it is difficult to understand how the officials didn't see the incident.
The result leaves Leeds in second place in the Championship table - two points behind leaders Sheffield United - and Forest remain in seventh, six points off the top.
However, the controversial end to the game dominated reactions on social media as Leeds fans were counting their lucky stars as Roofe had a major hand in the final result, whereas Forest fans were left fuming...
Mr Clough had the measure of Leeds all those years ago, cheating is ingrained in the club [@GarethDJ81]
How an earth can the Officials miss that? Man on the moon could see that was handball! [@Reesie75]
Nottingham Forest absolutely robbed of a win by a handball goal and maybe offside VAR would of sorted that [@EASTONZAIR99]
This ref must have a season ticket on the Kop, a signed photo of Vinnie Jones, a brick next to Bremner's statue and an evening meal in the John Charles suite booked. Shockingly poor. [@Mulvaney1Kevin]
I’m a @LUFC fan, but that is an outrageous decision... ref should have known from the #Leeds players body language. Can understand frustration of @NFFC players... every call, and some, has gone against them [@PadraigMcKeon]
That’s the most blatant handball I’ve seen in years ! Incredible decision. Ref and linesman have lost the plot! [@Chris_a-tye]
What did you make of the 'dubious' handball goal?
