Manchester City Blow Barcelona And Tottenham Out Of The Water In Chase For £61m Wonderkid
Manchester City are remarkably believed to be the ones who have won the race for Ajax midfield star Frenkie De Jong, despite the Dutchman being heavily linked with both Barcelona and Tottenham over recent months.
According to the Mirror, City are believed to have won the race for the top European talent who has been identified by Pep Guardiola as the long-term successor for 33-year-old holding midfielder Fernandinho.
Now, both Barcelona and Tottenham have conceded defeat to Man City despite having tracked the youngster for several months with a view to signing him. The fee is believed to be £61 million which is the reason both these clubs have dropped out of the hunt for the latest talent off the Ajax conveyor belt.
De Jong has the ability to pass the ball with speed and accuracy and control any game he chooses. His mobility on and off the ball make him a perfect fit for Pep Guardiola who will look to seal his signing in the summer.
The player at just 21-years-old, is believed to be impressed with how Guardiola has improved other young talents such as Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane at City and would like to play under him in the Premier League.
It is not often that Barcelona don’t get the player that they want and Pep may have just stolen this future star from his former club. This could be another signal of intent from Man City as they look to dominate English football and win the Champions League for the first time.
