Pep Guardiola has given Man City fans a huge boost heading into Sunday’s massive clash against Liverpool at Anfield. City have not won at that ground since May 2003 but this news could give them the edge over their title rivals.

During his press conference Pep confirmed he could welcome back his star man, Kevin De Bruyne this weekend. He said: "He made part of the training today. He's training with us, yeah." When pushed on whether he could play tomorrow he said: “We’ll see tomorrow.”

De Bruyne suffered knee ligament damage in August and was expected to be out for three weeks but he could return much sooner than expected, this weekend. Elsewhere City could welcome back Benjamin Mendy which would be a massive boost after he started the season on fire.

“Liverpool is one of two greatest teams in England.” Guardiola said. “We try to be close to them. They are top side and we try to be closer every time. Benjamin Mendy trained with us today and is in contention.”

He also gave injury updates on the rest of the squad. “Everybody is OK, Delph is not available. Ilkay Gundogan has a little problem and he didn't train today - we will see tomorrow.”

Pep is still trying to work out how to play against Liverpool, a team who caused him all sorts of problems last season, beating them 4-3 at Anfield and dumping them out of the Champions League over two legs.

“In the Champions League, the first game we made a good performance except at the end of the first half. At home, we made a very good game as well. It doesn’t matter that we lost. They are a top side in the way they play. Liverpool beat a lot of sides not just City (last season).
