Manchester City Sponsors Release Painfully Cringy Video Celebrating Premier League Title Win
10:15, 16 Apr 2018

Manchester City fans were taken by surprise yesterday when Manchester United handed them the league title by losing 1-0 at home to bottom club West Brom. Celebrations started wildly in the city and the club’s sponsors, Elisalat UAE, were keen to join in with the celebrations.

However, the video they released a few minutes after full-time may have missed the mark and some fans are calling it ‘the cringiest video online.’ The video starts with pretend football fans singing along to the children’s tune, ‘If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands’.

It shows a complete misunderstanding of what football is about and perhaps football sponsors should leave the celebrations to the players in real life rather than fabricating their own. You simply have to see this video to believe it, it has received over 2000 retweets on Twitter so if it is an outrageous marketing strategy you have to say it has worked.

Man City have won the Premier League with five games to go, a joint-record. They are on course to break a number of records and could become the first Premier League team to get over 100 points in a season. That would require 13 points from the last fifteen available but judging by Pep Guardiola’s sides form this season they should be able to get that total.

The Citizens face Swansea, Huddersfield and Brighton at home and take on West Ham and Southampton on the road. That final game on the south coast could be a great celebration for the away fans but the hosts are battling relegation and will be keen for the points.

Watch the cringy video below as you can see just how out of touch football sponsors are!
