Manchester United have reached an €85 million agreement with Barcelona for the transfer of Dutch international midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
The talks between the two clubs have been going on for weeks, with United suffering several setbacks in their pursuit of De Jong due to the issue of the player being owed restitution for wages and bonuses by the Catalan club which is reportedly totalled at £17 million.
In the three years he has spent at Camp Nou, De Jong has gone on to make 138 appearances for Barca, scoring 13 goals and providing 17 assists and winning the 2020-21 Copa del Rey.

The midfielder is a top priority for Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag and he knows him well from their time together at Ajax. The Dutch manager is tasked with building a United side that can help the club return to its former glory. He is making use of his Eredivisie connections as he has already signed young Dutch left-back Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord while he is closing in on Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez - after an approach to sign fellow Ajax defender Jurrien Timber never materialised.
De Jong could become the Red Devils’ third summer signing as their deal for Martinez is reportedly in its final stages. At Ajax, De Jong made 89 appearances, contributing five goals and 13 assists while winning an Eredivisie title and a KNVB Cup in his final season, with Ten Hag in charge.
