Manchester United Could Be Without Key Defensive Ace For Liverpool Clash

Manchester United fans are nervously waiting to hear an update on Nemanja Matic's fitness ahead of the Liverpool clash, as it was rumoured that the Serbian defensive midfielder did not travel with the squad to the Lowry Hotel last night.

As per every home match, United stayed overnight at the Lowry Hotel, but Matic was absent from the team coach and it left many Red Devils fans wondering whether he will feature in Sunday's monster Premier League clash with Jurgen Klopp's Reds.

Matic has been an integral part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's starting XI since the Norwegian took over from Jose Mourinho, as Matic's presence has allowed Paul Pogba to roam further forward as the former Chelsea midfielder has acted as a defensive safety net for United, who are looking to maintain their fabulous recent form.

Matic's inclusion in the United starting line-up will be crucial, as he will have the unenviable job of trying to keep the likes of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino quiet, with the latter of that trio often seen between the lines of the midfield and defence and Matic will play a huge role to halt Firmino's involvement in the match, if United aim to put a dent in Liverpool's title hopes.

While all eyes will be on the likes of Pogba and Marcus Rashford, as they look to continue to blossom under Solskjaer's reign, if Matic was not to feature then United will face a sterner test to down the high-flying Merseysiders, and Solskjaer will need to pull a rabbit out of the hat to try and keep Liverpool's attacking triumvirate quiet.
