Manchester United Emerge As Shock Favourites To Sign Champions League Winning Chelsea Defender

Manchester United are the shock favourites to sign Gary Cahill from Chelsea this summer.

The England defender has fallen down the pecking order at Chelsea and is reportedly considering a move away from Stamford Bridge in search of first team football.

The Daily Star are reporting that it is Man United who are the favourites in the betting to sign the former Bolton player as Jose Mourinho looks to bolster his defence.

Cahill has been a mainstay at Chelsea since arriving in 2012 but it now appears as if his days at the Bridge could be numbered with Maurizio Sarri thought to be planning on bringing Daniele Rugani in from Juventus.

Cahill is keen to seek talks with Sarri on his return from holiday according to various stories today, but the 32-year-old may see this as the perfect time to move on to pastures new.

Even taking that into account, it would be a surprise to see the former Aston Villa star move to Old Trafford this summer despite these latest reports. Mourinho is clearly considering bringing in a new body in that area with doubts around Jones, Smalling and Bailly to a certain extent but at 32, Cahill is hardly the man the fans would pick to strengthen the team.

United have been linked with Leonardo Bonucci in recent days but Gary Cahill is the latest name to be mentioned, with the Daily Star suggesting the Red Devils are in pole position to sign one of the most experienced defenders in the league.
