With David De Gea’s future still up in the air at Manchester United, the club are already thinking about possible replacements, according to the Sun. Manager Jose Mourinho has already caused concern amongst United fans with his comments that they may well lose their star player in summer.

On De Gea’s contract situation Mourinho said:

"I am not confident. I cannot find the word in English, but let's see what happens.

"Only the club, David and his people can answer that. My comment is only that everyone knows how good he is, how important he is for Manchester United.

"If the club want to be better than it is and not worse, obviously it would be very important to keep David."

Real Madrid would have been the most likely destination for the Spain number one, but with the signing of Thibaut Courtois, that move now looks unlikely to happen. United’s one hope is that most top European clubs already have a settled number one keeper.

Barcelona have Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, Atletico have Jan Oblak, Man City have Ederson and Bayern have Manuel Neuer. Perhaps the two clubs who could look to improve their goalkeeping position are Juventus and PSG.

But back to Manchester United and the club are already putting plans in place if the worst does happen and they lose David De Gea. Surprisingly, the Premier League replacement they have singled out to bring to Old Trafford is Brighton number one, Mat Ryan.

The Australian has put in some fine performances this season and the club see him as a viable replacement for De Gea. Ryan has over three years left on his current deal at Brighton but it is believed United would have the pulling power to force any deal through.

The 26-year-old shot stopper has taken to life in the Premier League easily and after a string of impressive showings is now ready to make the step up to a bigger club. Brighton currently lie 11th in the league, just three points behind the Red Devils.
