Manchester United have announced that former player Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will take charge of the first team until the end of the season. In a statement on the club website, they said: “Solskjær will take charge of the first team with immediate effect and will remain in place while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new full-time manager. He will be joined by Mike Phelan as first-team coach, working alongside Michael Carrick and Kieran McKenna.”
Solskjaer said: “Manchester United is in my heart and it’s brilliant to be coming back in this role. I’m really looking forward to working with the very talented squad we have, the staff and everyone at the club.”
United fans were absolutely delighted with the news on social media:
@VintageMUFC said: “YOU ARE MY SOLSKJAERRRR” whilst @LH44JL14 put: “He can replace Lukaku upfront as well!”
@AndrinhoUtd: “AND SOLSKJAER HAS WON IT!”
@Ibby_008 went along the same lines: “I can already sense it united vs Bayern CL final. 93rd minute 1-1. The stage is set, Soldkjaer subs himself on. You already know what’s next. AND SOLSKJSER’S WON IT!!!!!”
@HarrisonLeigh10 was a little more negative, questioning his managerial experience: “Terrible appointment, just look what he did at Cardiff doesn’t matter if there’s a connection to the club or not.”
@Gaeist had some simple advice: “Fundamental message to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer :
*Do not start Matic, Young, Jones, Fellaini and Smalling
*In fact just do yourself the favour and relegate them to the u-23 and sell them In January.”
