Manchester United extended their recent unbeaten run to four Premier League matches after coming from behind to beat Bournemouth 2-1 on the south coast.
The Red Devils suffered an early setback after the in-form Callum Wilson gave the hosts an early lead, however that man Anthony Martial got his side back into it, then Marcus Rashford snatched a last-gasp winner as United moved above Watford into 7th.
In his post-match interview boss Jose Mourinho was highly critical of United’s first-half performance, while irate fans took to Twitter during-and-after the match to slam one player in particular.
The man in question was Nemanja Matic who it’s fair to say has enjoyed a thoroughly underwhelming season, yet for some reason Mourinho refuses to drop the midfielder from his starting line-up.
The Serb has started the last eight consecutive matches, but fans are calling for Mourinho to make a change.
Matic is absolutely useless. May as well stick a tumble dryer in our midfield [@markgoldbridge]
Matic is finished. Should play Herrera or Andreas in his position. Poor first half but managed to salvage it in the second, need to do better against Juve. [@MartialFC_11]
This current version of Matic, whether it’s temporary or permanent, literally offers nothing but height. He’s out-treeing the tree [@ManUnitedYouth]
Matic is done. Shouldn't be anywhere near the team. Offers no screening at all. Completely bypassed [@unitedrant]
Looking forward to Nemanja Matic getting the Romelu Lukaku treatment soon and being dropped. Andreas Pereira was dropped after having a poor game, Matic has had a poor season but still starts every week [@UnitedPeoplesTV]
Think it should be Fred, Herrera and Pogba against Juve and City. But heaven knows Matic will need to do something disastrous for Jose to drop him. Just don't see him at pace with the game lately. [@DhagashS]
Chelsea fans told us Matic was finished
They was right. [@HQManUtd]
Not sure how Matic is still on the pitch. Last of the Mourinho undroppables. [@Doc_Joshi]
Matic is a clear example as to why we shouldn't be signing players that are over the age of 28. We'd get a maximum of 2 great seasons from signing players that are 29+. Board are completely right (if reports are true) in not approving of Jose's targets that are 29+. [@R786M]
United are next in action away to Juventus on Wednesday, knowing that a defeat could severely dampen their hopes of progressing through to the knockout stages of the Champions League.
