Manchester United have had a stinker of a season under Jose Mourinho and things now look a lot worse for United fans. A new report from Global Sport Salaries has said that this current Manchester United team are the highest paid squad in Premier League history and are being paid around half a million pounds more than Premier League champions Manchester City a year.

United are paying their first team players £6,534,654 per year whilst City’s bill comes in at £5,993,000. Those two are way clear of Chelsea on £5,020,004, Liverpool on £4,862,963 and Arsenal on £4,853,130.

This shows what a poor job Mourinho is doing at Manchester United and the money excuse simply is not valid anymore. At the opposite end of the scale spending just £1,603,197 Burnley are the third tightest Premier league club. Sean Dyche has worked miracles with that budget although amazingly Burnley are still spending more than Monaco and RB Leipzig, showing what financial might England’s top tier have other the other European clubs.

Barcelona have been exposed as the biggest spenders in Europe, splashing out an astonishing £10,454,259 a year on wages, with big names such as Lionel Messi, Coutinho and Luis Suarez earning big bucks.

Back to Mourinho’s men however and they will have to sharpen up quickly if they are to earn their cash this year. The club are now unlikely to qualify for the top four and the financial benefits that the Champions League brings whilst they could also finish the season trophyless. More bad news for United fans.
