The much-vaunted defence of the Italian champions Juventus, which has been the best in a nation of bests, wasn’t enough to hold off the Carthaginian arrival of Marouane Fellaini into their penalty area last night but Manchester United are said to be looking for Serie A players to shore up their own own backline, according to reports.
The first of those defenders from the peninsula that has been linked with a switch is the Sampdoria defender Joachim Andersen. The Italian outlet La Republicca that United sent four scouts to watch his side fall to a 4-1 defeat at home to Torino over the weekend.
The 22-year-old Dane will reportedly cost north of €30m should the Red Devils pursue his signature further.
A hefty tag in one sense but not when you consider the price tag that Inter Milan manager Luciano Spalletti has slapped on the head of another Serie A defender that’s been linked with United.
The 23-year-old Slovakian Milan Skriniar had the latest in a series of fine displays for his side against Barcelona in the Champions League last night.
“If it's Barcelona, they will have to pay €100m and if I am them I would pay a €20m tip on top,” he’s quoted in the Sun as saying when asked about what price tag the player might command.
“And if I'm Real Madrid, the [€100m] with a €40m tip -- that is how highly I rate Skriniar.”
No mention of the Premier League side, though, and they’d surely have to top the ten-figure mark at the very least to even get into this conversation.
