Christian Pulisic’s sensational acquisition by Chelsea has certainly started the ball rolling in what should be an exhilarating January transfer window.

Manchester United are, of course, right in the mix but today it is a player departing the Theatre of Dreams that is taking up the column inches.

Ashley Young is reportedly garnering strong interest over from Italy, with Inter Milan the particular party who want the 33-year-old’s services.

The English winger-turned-right-back is out of contract at United in the summer, and though the 13-time Premier League are still mulling over whether to offer their long-term servant an extension, an escape route to the San Siro is a real possibility (The Mail) which could see Young leave Manchester after almost eight years, over 200 appearances, and five trophies.

There may be a silver lining for United however, with the move potentially proving to be a bridge-builder that may become instrumental in bringing one particular member of the Inter Milan contingent over to Manchester.

Back in September, the Manchester Evening News picked up in reports from Ole (via AS) the club were ready to sanction a monumental move for Mauro Icardi, that would have seen the Argentine’s arrival in January to lead the United attacking line with the club willing to fork out the princely sum of €110m that is his release clause.

Though Romelu Lukaku produced a neat finish for the final goal in the rout of Bournemouth at Old Trafford in their last game of 2018, questions continue to remain over the Belgium’s effectiveness as the primary striker for the United attacking threat.

In 2017/18 Icardi registered a stunning haul of 25 goals from 34 games for the nerazzurri. In the same period, Lukaku bagged a respectable 16 in the Premier League, for a healthy return in his inaugural season in Red, and there is certainly no doubt as to who the majority of Manchester United fans would prefer to see spearhead.
