Manchester United Suffer Another Transfer Blow With World Cup Winner Set to Stay In Spain

Manchester United could be about to suffer another major transfer blow with Lucas Hernandez set to be offered a new deal by Atletico Madrid.

The French World Cup winner has been linked with a big money move to Old Trafford in January of late but the La Liga giants are reported to want to ward off any interest from the Premier League by offering the 22-year-old a new contract.

Sky Sports are reporting via AS that the new deal will include a release clause of £134m which they hope will be enough to stop United from sniffing round during the winter transfer window. As it stands, it is believed that a bid if £72m will be enough to activate the current release clause which has led to Atletico Madrid scrambling to offer the new contract.

If this latest story is true, it would be another major blow for Jose Mourinho in the transfer market following a frustrating time during the summer.

The Red Devils failed to add any of the defensive targets they wanted to bring to the club and a stuttering start to the new campaign has left the former Chelsea boss under intense pressure just four games into the new Premier League season.

Hernandez would be an ideal addition to a Manchester United squad which has looked extremely thin on the ground with the French star equally able to play at left-back or in the centre of the defence.

Any hopes of luring the Atletico defender to England though do now appear to be on the wane though with a new deal on the table according to this latest story.
