Tottenham Hotspur suffered a defeat in their opening Champions League group stage clash away to Inter Milan, who were inspired by their superb skipper Mauro Icardi.
Icardi showed the Premier League what it could expect in the future should he ever move over to England after the Argentine scored an absolute stunner against Tottenham at the San Siro.
With Inter Milan 1-0 down thanks to a 53rd minute goal from Eriksen, up stepped the club’s captain who conjured up a sensational 20-yard first-time volley into the bottom corner to draw the hosts level in the 86th minute.
There’s a long way to go in the current Champions League campaign, but come the end of the season you’d think that Icardi’s strike will still be up there with the very best.
Then in heartbreaking fashion Spurs went on to concede in the 92nd minute, courtesy of a Matías Vecino header, meaning the visitors slumped to a 2-1 defeat, while for Inter it was their first Champions League win since March 2012.
Tottenham have now lost three consecutive games for the first time under Mauricio Pochettino, with Tim Sherwood the last Spurs boss to suffer a three game losing streak back in March 2014.
Tottenham fans will be hoping that their troops can quickly put the disappointment of the Inter game behind them when they make the trip to Brighton on Saturday night. The club haven’t lost three league games on the spin since 2012 when they lost to Wigan, Man City, then rivals Arsenal...
They are back in the big time! What a strike!
