Manchester United ''Willing To Pay £40million'' To Tempt Mauricio Pochettino Away From Spurs

On the day that Jose Mourinho's agent issued a statement to confirm his client was "happy" at Manchester United, The Sun has reported that the club have identified his potential replacement.

Top of the United wishlist is Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino according to the report. Even a £40million buyout clause has not put off United who would prefer the Argentinian even over Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane who is still unattached after resigning from the European Champions in the summer.

Ironically, Pochettino has been linked with the Real Madrid job too as doubts persist about Santiago Solari. Many believe Solari will only be in the Real Madrid hot spot until the end of the season.

Mourinho has cut a frustrated figure at Old Trafford this season as his team have struggled for consistency. United have drawn their last two games 2-2 but only a few weeks ago pulled off a stunning 2-1 Champions League success in Turin against Juventus.

Tottenham will be desperate to retain the services of Pochettino as they prepare to move into their stunning new stadium. With such a huge investment in the site, on the footprint of the former White Hart Lane, there will be a renewed effort from Spurs to keep Pochettino who came to the club from Southampton in 2014.

Reports last month suggested Ed Woodward was ready to back Mourinho with a transfer kitty in January, enabling him to buy three players in January. With such uncertainty about his future, it will be interesting to see if that promise comes to fruition.
