The fallout from Manchester United's humbling Champions League exit at the hands of Sevilla has continued as manager Jose Mourinho has unleashed a furious rant at journalists.
Mourinho was incensed by the reaction to United's 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford on Tuesday night, albeit his own response to his team's abject efforts was brought into question. The 55-year-old suggested it was "nothing new for the club" to be losing on home soil in the last-sixteen of the competition on Tuesday night.
He followed up that bizarre reaction by turning his angst on the assembled media during his press conference on Friday afternoon, first reading out a pre-prepared monologue before criticising those he refers to as "idiots" and "idealists".
He begins by saying, "The people that write, and the people that say, are people with a lot of ideas. And I use to call people with a lot of ideas, idealists or idiots."
He went on to defend his team's direct style of football and the fact that they had lost to a Sevilla side that has generally struggled for form this season.
"We went out to a side, we went out to a side, that is more successful than Man Utd in the last seven years in Europe. We are going to a side that has a huge tradition in knockout competitions."
