Marcus Rashford was in for a night of criticism from his manager last night as United scraped past Young Boys thanks to a last-minute Marouane Fellaini goal. Jose Mourinho was furious on the touchline after Rashford missed a simple one-on-one and although Rashford failed to get onto the scoresheet, he did continue to get into the right areas of the pitch and create chances.
However, that was not enough for his boss who was left exasperated at the young English forward. He gestured to the crowd after one of the misses which left the pundits in the studio furious at the Portuguese manager’s behaviour.
“If I saw my manager react like that, I would be absolutely livid." Gary Lineker said in the BT Sport studio as a former centre-forward. Rashford certainly did not have his best game but there was no need from this reaction from his manager, a reaction that certainly will not have helped the young forward.
L’Equipe were quick to jump onto the Man Utd team with their player ratings, which were as brutal as ever. The French magazine remarkably only gave Rashford a 3/10, the lowest rating for any home player. Wide men Anthony Martial, Luke Shaw and Jesse Lingard were only given 4/10 whilst David De Gea amazingly was only given 5/10 despite pulling off a remarkable save that kept the scores level.
Marouane Fellaini top scored with 7/10 whilst Phil Jones also impressed with 6/10. Harsh but fair from the French magazine or completely out of order?
