Martin Keown won’t be welcome in the red half of Merseyside anytime soon following a series of comments about Liverpool, which fans have unsurprisingly not taken particularly well.
First of all, in the build-up to Saturday’s match against Arsenal he said that the Gunners should target Reds left-back Andy Robertson as he's a player that could be exploited, then in the aftermath of the game the pundit questioned the club's Premier League title hopes, and made this claim about Mo Salah:
"I look at Salah, and he doesn't look the real deal for me," said Keown on BT Sport.
"When you really go for it and look at him, he was very quiet today. Something is wrong.
"Maybe the injury he has is affecting him and he doesn't want to get hurt. He's not really the same player."
Then in a separate comment, the former Arsenal defender said this about Liverpool’s Premier League title challenge:
“I have to say that with Liverpool not winning this game, having seen Man City here earlier in the season, if you want to win the Premier League you had to win here (Emirates) tonight.
“If you want to win the Premier League you have to match your nearest rivals and what they’ve done, and Man City won here (Emirates) albeit against a different Arsenal.”
You’re right there Keown, this Arsenal side are a completely different outfit to the one that faced City on the opening weekend, and the draw against Liverpool meant that Unai Emery's side are now enjoying a 14 game unbeaten run, while they could even be considered outsiders for the title.
Liverpool fans didn’t hold back on their criticism of Keown:
Come on this makes merson look good [@cajarrett16]
Martin Keown coming from that generation of pundits who come out with ridiculous statements. Put him on par with Merson, Gray and Garth Crooks. No clue on modern football at all but trying to fit the narrative. [@Jit6181]
What invisible thing is Keown unscrewing???? [@nickvoakes]
This is proof positive that simply having played football does not make you an expert in analysis. Stop embarrassing yourself here Keown [ @T_1soundstrings]
FACT: @MoSalah created more chances than anyone today. Salah is the only major player that gets criticized if he doesn't score in a game. Unrealistic and silly expectations. [@ashnashed]
Martin Keown doesn't think Mohamed Salah is offering Liverpool the same as last season...
