The eight automatic qualifiers for the European Ryder Cup team have been confirmed and all that is left is for captain Thomas Bjorn to name his four wildcard picks. The Dane has some desperately difficult decisions to make, particularly after Matt Wallace made a strong case for inclusion with his victory at the Made In Denmark on Sunday.
Bjorn's eight automatic qualifiers have six major titles between them as Francesco Molinari, Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose will be joined by Ryder Cup debutants Tyrrell Hatton, Tommy Fleetwood, Jon Rahm, Alex Noren and Olesen. There is plenty of class in that line-up but the worry for Bjorn will be the lack of Ryder Cup experience as they prepare to take on Team USA in France from 28-30 September.
It will be interesting to see whether the Dane opts for experience over form as he weighs up his four captain's picks ahead of Wednesday's final team announcement.
Latest European Wildcard Odds:
1/50 Ian Poulter
1/10 Henrik Stenson
2/11 Paul Casey
4/9 Sergio Garcia
5/4 Matt Wallace
6/4 Rafa Cabrera-Bello
Bjorn will do well to ignore the claims of Matt Wallace. The Englishman has thrown his hat into the ring with his third victory of 2018 as he won a four-way play-off to claim the Made In Denmark title on Sunday. The 29-year-old finished like a train to get the better of Lee Westwood, Steve Brown and Jonathan Thompson at the Silkeborg Ry Golf Club and he claimed his fourth win on the European Tour.
Wallace has been on fire since claiming his first career title at the Portugal Masters in May of last year, winning three titles in 21 starts during this calendar year alone, and he recently produced his best effort at a major tournament when finishing in the top-20 at the US PGA Championship.
The negatives for selecting Wallace would be his relative lack of match-play experience as he lost 5&4 to Rikard Karlberg at the 2017 Paul Lawrie Match Play in his only singles match and he has very little experience when it comes to the team format of golf.
The Englishman is clearly a man in form but will it be enough to earn a wildcard? Find out when we'll be covering Thomas Bjorn's Ryder Cup wildcard announcement live on Wednesday at 2pm (BST).
