Football fans in pubs across the country are always having an argument about the fastest player in their team is but Liverpool fans can wonder no more.
Joe Gomez gas been revealed as the fastest player at the Anfield club this season thanks to a brilliant interview with the Daily Mail.
The young England defender has been a superstar alongside Virgil Van Dijk in the heart of the Liverpool defence so far this term with the Reds currently unbeaten in the Premier League and joint top of the table with Man City.
The former Charlton youth product has endured a tough spell with injuries since making the big move to Anfield but with those issues now firmly behind him, the future looks bright.
Speed is clearly an asset for Gomez but even he might have been surprised to learn that he has clocked the top speed of any Liverpool player. The 21-year-old stopped the watch at 21.6mph which is just ahead of Van Dijk who clocked 21.5mph.
Sadio Mane (21.4mph) and Mo Salah (20.9mph), who many would have thought would have come out on top in a foot race, are left trailing by the England defender according to these official times, but Gomez was being typically modest in his interview to the Mail.
"‘I think over the first 10 yards me and Virgil would be looking at Sadio and Mo’s backs. But we may claw some back towards the end.
Gareth Southgate is clearly a big fan of Joe Gomez and who can blame him, with the defender proving he is not only a brilliant footballer, but also a remarkable athlete.
