Mo Salah has been welcomed into the hearts of the Liverpool fans since his arrival on Merseyside and has seemed to have a keen connection to the Anfield faithful. Big European nights mean as much to those fans as anything and the Egyptian has developed a habit of netting just when it means most.
Tonight’s tie with Napoli at Anfield was just one of those occasions, with Liverpool needing to win either 1-0 or by two clear goals to ensure progression to the knockout rounds from Group C.
In the heat of this environment and with the game deadlocked, Salah produced another bit of magic to add to his weekend hat-trick.
After being slipped into the box, Salah skins the Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly and fires home past David Ospina in the visiting side’s goal.
The best bit? Koulibaly is reportedly the target of £90m worth of interest from Manchester United and is Jose Mourinho’s preferred choice for a badly needed bit of defensive restructuring.
Salah brings his total goal number of goals for this season to thirteen in just twenty-three appearances. Quote the return for the Egyptian, who has faced suggestions from some corners that he may have been a “one season wonder” after his spectacular, goal and accolade-rich campaign last season.
Goals, and important one, keep coming for him, though, and nothing could seem further from the truth. Tonight’s opener was the eighth time Salah has broken the deadlock for Liverpool so far this season.
The man for the big occasion does it again!
