Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has criticised several of his players' performance following their uninspiring 2-0 win over Brighton in the FA Cup on Saturday night.
Mourinho is specialising in post-match rants currently and he turned his ire on his own team for their failure to provide a suitable reaction to the mid-week defeat to Sevilla in the Champions League. The 55-year-old was particularly vexed by the inability of his men to carry out his instructions, saving his most damning criticism for Luke Shaw. The left-back has had several run-ins with Mourinho during his time at Old Trafford and the latest could well expedite a move away from the club this summer.
Mourinho said Shaw was substituted at half-time on Saturday evening because he wanted his team to "defend better", while Nemanja Matic was one of the few to emerge with any credit.
"I thought Matic was an island - an island of personality, of desire, of control - surrounded by, not water, but lack of personality, lack of class and lack of desire. I must say [Scott] McTominay lost more passes in the match than he has all together [this season]".
It is fair to assume that plenty of Manchester United fans would rather have been sunning themselves on an island than watching the stodgy fare provided at Old Trafford. You can watch the interview in full below:
