Italian journalist Paolo Del Genio has reported that Napoli have an agreement with their former superstar Edison Cavani. This arrangement would see the Uruguayan striker sign a four-year contract and earn €7.5 million per year if Napoli can convince PSG to sell.

He told the TuttoNapoli Facebook page: “This does not mean that it is made, but from today I remove the word impossible to this negotiation.Of course, we must deal with the PSG and it will not be easy, but the will of the player seems that there is because the source is very close to his family. The proposal of the Naples also economically could have its effectiveness ".

The 31-year-old starred for Uruguay in their impressive World Cup run and it was clear to see they were not the same side in his absence. He is now valued at around €60m, but with Napoli desperate to keep up with Serie A rivals Juventus, who have just signed  Cristiano Ronaldo for over €100m. PSG may also feel the pressure to balance the books after bringing in Neymar and Kylian Mbappe in the last two seasons.

Cavani left Napoli for PSG in 2013 and has since become their all-time top goalscorer and won the Ligue 1 title four times. He joined for €65m back then and PSG would need convincing to accept any offer for one of their key front men.

Neymar and Mbappe seemed to have struck up a decent on-field relationship with Cavani and it is unlikely the PSG chiefs will want to break up their dream front three. However, Neymar had a few incidents with the Uruguayan last season over penalties and perhaps he would prefer a different strike partner.

This transfer seems to have legs and it would be excellent to see Napoli challenge Juve for the Serie A title once again.
