Newcastle United v Arsenal: Unai Emery Must Bite The Bullet And Start Attacking Duo At St James' Park

Arsenal head to Newcastle on Saturday afternoon for a crucial Premier League game as they look to build on their second win of the season at Cardiff.

That success in Wales was a much needed one for Unai Emery as he continues to settle in to his office at the Emirates Stadium but the former PSG boss once again has a number of key decisions to make.

The Gunners have been nothing short of woeful from a defensive point of view so far this term, with two goals conceded in their win over the Bluebirds confirmation of that.

It is difficult to see that defensive unit improving any time soon but one area of hop for Gunners fans is the form of Alexandre Lacazette.

The French striker has endure a mixed start to his career in London over the past year with injuries and the arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang limiting his chances to impress.

The former Lyon striker has looked sharp so far this term though and took his chance in impressive fashion when given his first start of the campaign at Cardiff prior to the International break.

The Gunners looked much more of an attacking threat with Lacazette, instead of Aubameyang, starting through the middle, but Emery was predictably coy as he commented on the prospect of both men starting again in his press conference on Friday

"It’s a process to know the combination on the pitch, with different players but I need and I want to start in the level, 11 players with good performances and also, we need in the balance of players, when the team needs to work in the pitch to help the team to find the win, to stay with the performance."

The French international and Aubameyang linked up beautifully on occasions in that Cardiff match and the fans will be hoping that is a sign of a promising partnership forming.

It is clear at the moment that the Gunners are not capable of sitting back and hitting teams on the counter-attack given the lack of defensive quality in the Arsenal squad but they do have two potentially world class strikers who can give them a chance in any game.

Aubameyang has the pace and trickery to play off the wing with Lacazette the player with the physical presence in the penalty box, as he has shown recently when given the chance.

Newcastle have tasted some joy against the north London at home in recent years and any trip to St James' is a tough ask but Emery does have some weapons of his own and it is about time he deployed his two biggest guns together on a regular basis.
