NFL Week 4: Heroes And Villains

NFL Week 4: Heroes And Villains

Heroes:

Todd Gurley

The Rams running back helped his team to a second consecutive win against the Cowboys on the road in Arlington.

Coming into this one off the back of his virtuoso display last week against the 49ers, during which he made 140 yards from scrimmage and scored three TDs, he was again mightily impressive in a 35-30 comeback win for the Rams.

The dual-threat RB clocked up 121 yards rushing and 94 more receiving, with the highlight of his showing coming in the form of a 53-yard catch-and-run.

A rookie running back of the year and Pro Bowler in 2015, Gurley endured an insipid time of things in 2016 but he looks to be right back to his scintillating best this year.

Cam Newton

The Panthers QB has taken some time to work himself into shape following shoulder surgery but he and his attack put together a strong showing to punish a curiously underperforming Patriots outfit.

The 2015 MVP threw for over 300 yards, three TDs and rushed for another as he appears to gradually ease back into his old groove following his injury issues.

Deshaun Watson

The rookie QB has revitalised the Texans offense since he came into the fold and he was a revelation against the Titans during his side’s 54-14 this week.

He threw for 283 yards and four TDs as well as 24 yards and one TD.

He’s only the third QB in history to accomplish that feat and the first to do it as a rookie.

Bronco’s run defense

Denver boast the stingiest run defense in the league and it stood up to the test this week against Marshawn Lynch and his Oakland Raiders.

In a tight game that finished up 16-10 to Denver, Lynch was held to a mere 12 yards on 9 carries. Raiders QB Derek Carr didn’t fair up much better in the passing stakes - a hit in the backfield put him out of the game in the third quarter.

The Broncos are far from inspiring on the front foot, but as long as their ferocious defense keep up the level of their performances they’ll not be an easy game for anyone this season.

Von Miller was a standout and the OLB claimed his fourth sack of the season so far.

Villains:

The Dolphins

So bad were the Dolphins at Wembley on Sunday, they take up the whole villains slot all by themselves this week.

They stumbled to a 20-0 reverse against the Saints in London, in a game that won’t do much to stir up interest in the mooted prospect of an NFL franchise moving across the water.

The Saints won’t be building up much of a fanbase in the U.K with performances like theirs, either, but QB Drew Brees managed to get his ducks in a row in the second half and throw for two TDs as his team ground to a win.
