Frankie Dettori will not be taking part in the Shergar Cup at Ascot this weekend.
The popular Italian jockey had been hoping to captain the European team but he will instead go to Newmarket on Saturday which means that Gerald Mosse will take part.
First held in 2000, the Shergar Cup has been a popular, if controversial, team event as groups of three riders battled it out for their country in a different sort of day out for punters.
The event often attracts criticism from old fashioned racing fans but the event always attracts huge crowds at the Berkshire venue with plenty of entertainment on and off course for those in attendance.
The Berkshire track are once again expected a bumper crowd through the turnstiles for an event which can only be a good thing for the sport, with plenty of children tasting their day at the races thanks to the Shergar Cup.
Ascot will have been disappointed to see Frankie Dettori heading to Newmarket but there is still some interesting names set for this weekend.
The girls team will feature Hayley Turner, Josephine Gordon and Hollie Doyle as familiar faces up against a Britain and Ireland team consisting of Adam Kirby, Pat Cosgrave and Fran Berry which will be fancied to do well.
Joao Moreira will be one of the biggest stars on show as he joins the Rest of the World team fresh off another amazing campaign in Hong Kong with the Brazilian taking part alongside Corey Brown and Yutaka Take, who will captain the team.
As in previous years, there will be a winning team prize based on a points system throughout the afternoon and also an individual prize for the jockey with the most points at the end of the day.
Great Britain & Ireland go into the 2018 edition as the defending champions having won the trophy in impressive fashion last year but all four teams are looking strong and it is shaping up to be another unique and interesting day of action.
