No Kane No Gain! Could This Liverpool Player Be The Answer To Tottenham's Striker Problem?

Tottenham Hotspur suffered a double-whammy over the weekend as Man Utd rocked up at Wembley and punctured their Premier League title hopes, in a game which saw star man Harry Kane hobble off with an ankle injury.

It’s since been revealed that the England skipper, who has 14 top-flight goals to his name this term, will be out until March. A damaging blow considering that fellow forward Heung-Min Son is currently representing South Korea at the Asian Cup, Lucas Moura is on the sidelines, while Fernando Llorente has been linked with Athletic Bilbao, meaning Spurs are in desperate need of some ammunition in attack.

The Telegraph is reporting that this could come in the form of Liverpool outcast Divock Origi who "is the right age and profile".

The Belgian striker has been starved of game time this season, scraping only three Premier League appearances totalling a combined 72 minutes on the pitch, although he did memorably score the winner in the final minute of the Merseyside derby. However, with only six showings in all competitions and absolutely no chance of usurping the fabled front three in the starting line-up, he’ll no doubt be interested in a move away from Anfield if offered the chance to play a pivotal role elsewhere.

The 23-year-old, formerly of Lille, currently has 18 months left on his contract but whether Liverpool would be willing to let him depart to one of their title rivals is another matter. The Reds may have extended their lead over 3rd-placed Spurs to nine points but there’s still 16 games to play and Jurgen Klopp is unlikely to sanction such a transfer, whether it’s a loan or permanent deal.

However, with Kane leaving a gaping hole in Spurs' frontline, Daniel Levy should at least test the waters and make an enquiry. Origi's teammate Daniel Sturridge has also been rumoured to be considering his options, but the latest dose of speculation has linked the player with a move away from England over to the MLS.

The more likely outcome for Spurs is Pochettino placing his faith in outsider Llorente, who now has the chance to shine in Kane's absence. Meanwhile Troy Parrott, the club’s 16-year-old academy striker, recently travelled with the squad for the Leicester game but it's difficult to envision an upgrade to the first-team just yet.
