Nottingham Forest are on the hunt for yet ANOTHER manager after Aitor Karanka left his post this morning.
Remarkably the last Nottingham Forest manager to complete a full season from start to finish was Billy Davies back in the 2010/11 campaign, with Karanka’s replacement set to be their twelfth manager since then.
Former Fulham and Watford boss Slavisa Jokanovic, who has two promotions from the Championship to his name, has emerged as the early favourite in the next Nottingham Forest manager market, with the likes of Leonardo Jardim, Carlos Carvalhal, Nigel Clough, and Gary Rowett also in the frame for the vacancy.
However, there’s one name that instantly springs to attention from a Forest fans perspective.
Step forward Martin O’Neill.
The Reds legend is ready and available having left his position at the Republic of Ireland back in November, and can currently be backed at 8/1 to bag the job.
The 66-year-old famously spent 10 years as a Forest player between 1971 and 1981, winning a couple of European Cups and a league title, thriving under the tutorship of the legendary Brian Clough.
Should O’Neill make a sensational return to the club nearly 40 years later, he could well bring another former Forest icon, Roy Keane, back with him - the duo worked together at the Republic of Ireland.
A number of Forest fans have been quick to take to Twitter to urge the club to bring back the double act!
O'Neill and Keane the only men for the job (@braidz28)
O'Neill and keane the new clough and taylor? (@Listen_SA)
It'll be Martin O'Neill (maybe with Keane as assistant!)......... in all seriousness! (@SBH1978)
Would love jokanovic personally plays good football been promoted twice, like to see what O’Neill and Keane could do together too! (@ianfisher85)
O’Neill & Keane for me. No nonsense, probably what some of the players need and know our football club & expectations well. (@KieranGaughan)
Martin O'Neill or Roy Keane have to be in the running for the Forest job @philegansport
Jokanovic has to be first choice. Wouldn’t be averse to a O’Neill/ Keane double act. As a longer shot Carvalhal perhaps? It better not be Rowett or Holloway. (@warrenallsworth)
O’Neill with Keane for me but I think it will be Jokanovic (@JohnI8derby)
For the time being Simon Ireland will take charge of the Forest first team until a new manager is appointed, with the club next in action away to Reading tomorrow.
- Slavisa Jokanovic: 4/5
- Leonardo Jardim: 5/1
- Martin O'Neill: 8/1
- Carlos Carvalhal: 10/1
- Jose Mourinho: 80/1
