Trainer Aidan O'Brien claimed a sensational 10th win in the Epsom Oaks and a record 41st triumph in British classics as Ryan Moore rode Tuesday to a fantastic photo-finish win on her birthday in the 244th running of the legendary Group 1 race.
Tuesday stayed on in the closing stages to fight off a resurgent favourite in Emily Upjohn, who had slipped coming out of the stalls to leave Frankie Dettori with plenty to do to ride her from the rear of the field and back into contention.
But Moore clinched a fourth Oaks win by the skinniest of margins as Tuesday staved off the 6/4 shot to come home ahead at 13/2. Hollie Doyle brought Nashwa in in third.
"We're absolutely delighted. We always thought that a mile-and-a-half or a-mile-and-a-quarter was going to suit her well, and Ryan rode her very confidently. She quickened very well, unbelievable really," said a typically magnanimous O'Brien to ITV after the record-breaking victory.
"It feels unbelievable for us to be part of the whole thing," he added regarding his record in classics. "We're a small part of a team, but I'm delighted for everybody because everybody puts in so much work day and night."
Earlier in the day Jim Crowley rode 11/4 shot Hukum to victory in the Dahlbury Coronation Cup, finishing strongly in the final few furlongs to outstrip the 2/1 favourite Pyledriver and Dettori by four-and-a-quarter lengths.
