Odds Slashed On Alastair Cook To Win Sports Personality Of The Year

Odds Slashed On Alastair Cook To Win Sports Personality Of The Year

Alastair Cook has shone in his final test for England, hitting a century in his last ever appearance for his country. That ton put England well in control of the final test match as they look to secure a comprehensive series win over India, but his farewell test match has also had an impact on his odds to win the big prize at the end of the year.

The Sports Personality of the Year award is one of the most prestigious sporting awards in Britain and punters believe Cook could be in with a big shout of taking home the trophy in December. Geraint Thomas is still the outright favourite at 11/8 after winning the Tour de France this year, closely followed by England captain Harry Kane who won the Golden Boot at the World Cup.

Dina Asher-Smith is in at 7/1 but Cook is now the fourth favourite to receive the prestigious trophy. The England man’s odds have been slashed from 50/1 at the close of play yesterday and he is now into 12/1 in most places.

That puts him ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Anthony Joshua according to the bookies. Elsewhere in the market, Adam Peaty can be found at 33/1 alongside Lizzy Yarnold whilst the controversial boxer Tyson Fury can be backed at 50/1 ahead of his potential fight with Deontay Wilder.

Cook has certainly gone out with a bang from test cricket with yet another century and is one of the finest batsmen this country has produced in recent times.
