Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has named his Manchester United dream team and it includes a whole host of legends he played with during his time at Old Trafford. Solskjaer scored a whopping 126 goals for the club in his 11-year spell in Manchester and cemented his place in United folklore by scoring the winning goal in the Champions League final in 1999.
In goal OGS chose a bit of a surprise in Edwin Van Der Sar over Peter Schmeichel, however, given that he played with the Dutchman for longer at the club, this choice was understandable. At right-back, Gary Neville was the obvious choice and Solskjaer chose him to fit in defence alongside Jaap Stam and Rio Ferdinand in the centre.
Solskjaer praised Ferdinand’s pace and passing range at the back and Denis Irwin was the man he picked at left-back. 4-4-2 was the formation Solskjaer picked out for his team and David Beckham was another obvious choice on the right-wing, whilst the ever-present Ryan Giggs was the man on the opposite side.
In the centre of midfield, Roy Keane was an obvious choice as captain alongside the talented Paul Scholes. Solskjaer said: “He’s not the quickest, he doesn’t run the most, he never wins a header, he can’t tackle but he is the best player.”
Up front, Solskjaer went with the dangerous duo of Eric Cantona and Ruud Van Nistelrooy. How United wish they had one of those goalscorers up front now! Not a bad front two and perhaps this hints that Ole could favour a back to basics approach with this United squad.
