Oleksandr Usyk Enters Ring After Tyson Fury Batters Derek Chisora

Fury stopped Chisora in round ten, but the big stories came after the fight...

Tyson Fury retained his WBC heavyweight title with a controlled and dominating display over fellow Brit Derek Chisora at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.

It was a completely one-sided contest, which many people predicted in the build-up, the 38-year-old did well to get through the rounds, but failed to make any impact on his opponent. Instead, Fury, by far the superior fighter as he has already proved twice before, was able to land bombs at will. He switched to southpaw on several occasions and was able to flick punches at Chisora’s head and body with only the occasional shot coming back from Del Boy.

In round nine, the crowd were singing ‘I wanna know if you’ll be my girl’ but by the end of the round blood was pouring from Chisora’s mouth and his eyes were starting to close. His corner repeatedly said ‘we’re good’ to the referee as he checked on the fighter sat on his stool, but that was a blatant lie.

In round ten, it was more of the same, as the Gypsy King unleashed more fury onto Chisora and with just ten seconds left in the round, Victor Loughlin waved the fight off. It was one-way traffic for pretty much the whole fight, and he had seen enough. Chisora should have been saved from himself a few rounds earlier, and his corner should have thrown the towel in.

The crowd booed at the end, having not been pleased with the spectacle that was put on in front of them, but it's difficult to know what they expected when they bought their tickets? Chisora was never going to win this fight and Fury was never going to knock him out in round one.

The Tottenham Hotspur stadium is a fine venue for boxing, but the main event wasn’t a contest. These two good friends have now completed their trilogy, which ended with Fury chanting ‘Oh Derek Chisora’ in the middle of the ring. "He's an absolute warrior and it's been a privilege to fight him three times."

The main drama came after the fight when Oleksandr Usyk entered the ring and Fury went at him with words. “You are next you b***h. You rabbit. You p***y. 15 stone little midget.”

That fight would of course be for the undisputed heavyweight championship of the world, something we all are desperate to see especially after this one-sided contest. But there was also a third member at ringside, who entered the ring for a selfie with Usyk and Fury.

“If a deal can’t be made, Joe Joyce , let’s do Wembley!” Fury said to the 15-0 fighter who disposed of Joseph Parker last time out. Unfortunately for the Brit, given Anthony Joshua should have been stood across from Fury tonight in the ring, we can’t afford more delay for an undisputed fight.

In March, we need to see Usyk vs Fury. Fury needs it for his legacy. And more importantly, the sport needs it to repair its reputation.
