What a night for Manchester United!

Jose Mourniho's men came from a goal down to score two late goals meaning a first defeat of the season for Juventus.

A wonderful goal from Cristiano Ronaldo looked like being enough for Juventus but United came back with two late goals from Juan Mata and an own goal from Alex Sandro.

Former Manchester United players were queuing up to lavish praise on a gutsy performance which keeps their Champions League hopes very much alive.

"What a fantastic result," said Rio Ferdinand. "It was just what we wanted and gives them plenty of confidence going into the Manchester derby this weekend. Confidence I'm sure will be on the rise. Juventus is such a difficult place to go - they've made it a fortress over the last couple of years. The substitutions from Jose deserve a lot of credit with Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini. Anthony Martial deserves a special mention - he was the best United player on the day."

United legend Paul Scholes agreed: "Gritty is the word. Juventus, quality wise were the better team but they kept going and to go and win there is a great performance. They can be very proud of what they've done today."

Owen Hargreaves went one better, describing the result as "remarkable". He explained: "They were positive from the off, they pressed and unsettled Juventus. Maybe theydidn't deserve to win the game overall but they gave themselves a platform."

Paul Pogba told BT Sport: "We have been playing well together and playing until the end. Maybe we had an extra breath at the end."
