One of the best midfielders of his generation and a Manchester United legend, Paul Scholes has laid into Man Utd manager Jose Mourinho yet again. United were simply dismal as they scraped past Young Boys thanks to a last-minute Marouane Fellaini goal.
Scholes was slating the manager ahead of kick-off, saying he looked like a ‘lonely man’. The 11-time Premier League winner said:
"He seems like a lonely man at the minute.
"He seems the man stuck in the middle of everything. He's fallen out with the people who are trying to buy players, he's having a pop at his players.
"He seems a little bit alone in the middle of it all at the minute and the way his team is playing it seems that way as well."
The BT panel, made up of three former United men, Scholes, Owen Hargreaves and Rio Ferdinand were all angry at Mourinho’s post-match comments where he once again boasted about his personal record.
Scholes, in particular, took offence to the Portuguese saying: "It's always 'I' last time I looked football was a team game."
Scholes also said in the immediate aftermath:
"I thought they were awful tonight. Terrible. Second half especially. I think if they play against a half-decent team they get beat tonight. It reminded me very much of the Seville game. They huffed and puffed, quality was really lacking in every area of the pitch really.”
United are now safely through to the knockout stages and could still finish top of the group with a win over Valencia.
"I don't care about what you've done before!"
@rioferdy5 and Paul Scholes can't believe Jose Mourinho's post-match comments 😳
They do not hold back!
