The field is made up of the top eight players from the PDC Women’s Series Order of Merit following Event 12, with Ashton heading to Blackpool as the top seed. The former PDC Tour card holder has had an explosive start to the 2022 Women’s Series circuit, having won seven titles including two victories in Barnsley last weekend.
Her Matchplay campaign will begin with Chloe O’Brien, the Scottish teenager who qualified for the event at the last minute thanks to a run to the quarter-final of Sunday’s final event just before the cut-off.
As for Sherrock, who has made a name for herself on the PDC Tour and clinched her third Women’s Series title of the season with a triumph at Event 11, she faces rising Irish star Katie Sheldon. The pair have met before in Event Eight where Sheldon defeated Sherrock to make her first Women’s Series final appearance, having impressed on the Development Tour over the last few months.
Lorraine Winstanley claimed her maiden Women’s Series title in Event Ten on Saturday, and she will square-up against Wales' Rhian Griffiths in what will be her PDC televised debut. The other quarter-final clash pits four-time TV title winner Aileen de Graaf against Laura Turner.
The winner of the Betfred Women’s World Matchplay will claim a spot at this year’s Cazoo Grand Slam of Darts, as Ashton and last year's quarter-finalist Sherrock eye a return to that event in November.
